Now could you guys give me any recommendations on where to buy the parts? Also, suggestions on reliable service shops would be highly appreciated. I'm leaning towards having my iMac fixed by a professional since I know for sure from past experiences that electronics don't like me Thanks a lot for the input both of you gentle folks. If you’re upgrading SSD make sure buy the bundle kit, otherwise the retailer will charge you for the component (thermal sensor, etc). Unless you’re quite confident with DIY, I would suggest you buy from OWC or Crucial, bring it to a retailer and let them do the job. All RAM is 100 Apple Compatible and backed. Whichever (or both) upgrade you choose, you would need to separate iMac from screen which is not a easy task. DMS offers DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) Memory for your Intel Core i5 Quad-Core Apple iMac 21.5 MD093LL/A Late 2012. IMO the performance is more visible from the latter but the cost is higher too.

There are no issues with the Mac at all except that it has been getting silly slow when you open a few apps simultaneously so I think it's time to upgrade the memory.
